At the former Riga - Vidzeme tract there were numerous manor houses including the Big Smerlis manor. It has not been preserved.
In 1781 this manor was sold to hotel-keeper V.Stitzer - it belonged to his family up to 1828. Surroundings of Smerlis back then was a popular place for recrreation of Rigans.
Up to 1920ies property of Kerkovius family. At the end of 19th century next to the manor there was the popular Smerlis restaurant.
